I've been referring to this summer as the "summer of suck". I have no plans for travel, no prospects for a relationship/getting laid, and pretty much broke. Not to mention the whole still-pooping-like-crazy thing. And the overbearing heat. So when MM told me that Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash, Steve Earle & Nanci Griffith were performing at Town Hall next week I was all over that shit. Something fun to do! Turns out it's a benefit concert for John Hall (formerly of Orleans). Really? I don't care if it's a benefit for Hitler, the chance to see some of my absolute all time favorite artists, together for an acoustic evening (i love acoustic evenings!) is too good for me to miss. In honor of the upcoming event, I present you with one of Rosanne's songs, "List of Burdens" which contains one of the best turns of a phrase ever "bathed in neon, needing no one."
I'm coming home today, to hear the trucks roar,
And lock my front door, and stare into your face.
Coming home today, to sleep in my bed,
And clear round my head and wander round this place.
So don't put my love on your list of burdens,
When I'm bringing it home to you.
Don't put my love on your list of burdens,
'Cause I'm bringing it home to you.
I walked around this world, bathed in neon,
And needing no one, empty and disturbed.
You ran around this world. It nearly killed me,
But you can fill me till I cry like a little girl.
So don't put my love on your list of burdens,
When I'm bringing it home to you.
Don't put my love on your list of burdens,
'Cause I'm bringing it home to you.
If I can just get there,
Lay the whole damn world at your feet.
I'd do anything to please you baby,
To save yourself for me.
So don't put my love on your list of burdens,
When I'm bringing it home to you.
Don't put my love on your list of burdens,
'Cause I'm bringing it home to you.
